Now, of course I haven’t tried them all. That’s my life mission and will take some time.
But here are some eggs benedicts you can get in San Diego, and my thoughts on them.
Plus, some photos of my homemade attempts.
Queenstown

The “Babe Benedict” is hands down my favorite Benny in town!!!
Here’s the deal:
- Hoisin Pulled Pork
- Garlic Kale
- Jalapeño Corn Bread
- Jalapeño Cayenne Hollandaise
- Poached eggs (duh)
This Benny haunts my dreams. In a good way.
Breakfast Republic

Breakfast Republic is a very popular brunch spot in San Diego, and for good reason.
They have 6 options for eggs Benny, all amazing.
I love the crab cake version, with blackberry jalapeño jam.
YUM.
Fig Tree Cafe

This is one of our favorite spots in San Diego for brunch.
The eggs Benny is great, the rest of the menu is great, and the vibes are great.
Unfortunately the Hillcrest location is closed, but you can still go to PB (best vibes) or Liberty Station.
Toasted

Lobster. Brioche.
You heard me right.
Very decadent, and a price tag to match. But so good if you want to splurge.
I didn’t even mention the potatoes yet – crispy little balls of parmesan truffle. They actually come with most dishes, not just the Benny. And a cute little roasted tomato.
The Vibe

Unfortunately my Benny came out cold, which is always disappointing. This place had just opened, so probably ironing out some kinks.
That being said, I love me some lox on a Benny.
And the vibes of this place are fun, just like the name implies.
My Attempts

Not to toot my own horn, but c’mon… don’t they look delicious??
It’s all about the hollandaise. Not pictured are all the times my sauce broke or got too thin.
I like my hollandaise pretty thick, so it’s taken a few tries to nail down. I also like adding a lot of lemon juice for some acid, since it’s very rich.
My other secret – an egg poaching pan. So helpful.
